ALEXANDER PANFILOV
Alexander Panfilov was born in Moscow in 1989 and is currently based in London.
Praised by critics for the power and sensitivity of playing, he performs regularly throughout Europe and USA, venues including Carnegie Hall NY, Musikverein Vienna, Tonhalle Zurich, Wigmore Hall London, Bridgewater Hall Manchester, Moscow and St Petersburg Philharmonic Halls. As a soloist he has performed with orchestras including Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, La Verdi Orchestra Milan, Carlo Coccia Orchestra, City Orchestra of Granada, Belarussian State Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, etc., working with conductors such as Brian Wright, Paul Mann, Carlo Tenan, Gergely Madaras, Alessandro Ferrari, Andrei Galanov, and Vasily Petrenko, amongst others.
He has appeared in festivals, among which Menuhin festival Gstaad, Interlaken Festival, Schwarzwald Music Festival, Ribble Valley Piano Week, Ulverston Festival, and Rye arts festival. His performances were broadcast on radio BBC 3, Classic FM, Radio SRF, and Medici TV. In 2016 Alexander recorded a debut CD with music by Mussorgsky, Debussy, Albeniz, and Seco de Arpe, for Naxos. Alexander is a keen chamber musician and recorded Chamber Music for Toccata and Genuin.
Alexander started music lessons at the age of six and went to Gnessin Music School, later continuing at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Andrei Diev. From 2012 he studied in the UK, at the Royal Northern College of Music with Graham Scott. During the studies he has won the College’s major prizes, including Gold Medal for the top performance.
Alexander is a laureate of 1st prizes of Numerous International Piano competitions, including Rina Sala Gallo (2016), Premio Jaen (2016), Hastings Piano Concerto Competition (2015), Premio Accademia Romana (2015), James Mottram (2014), Taranto (2013), Brant (2013), and most recent 2nd prize at 1st Harbin International Music Competition. His vast repertoire spans an array of styles from Baroque to the 21st century and includes over 20 piano concertos.
